Product Overview
Specified for commercial building services, process water loops, and district cooling infrastructure, the NB 40-160/172 end-suction centrifugal pump incorporates DN 65 suction and DN 40 discharge flanged ports. The end-suction volute design connects directly to suction line headers and concrete foundation bases.
At nominal operational speed, hydraulic output provides 807 L/Min flow throughput alongside a maximum head limit of 36.85 m. Structural construction incorporates an EN-GJL-250 cast iron body with cataphoresis surface finish. Internal components feature a stainless steel impeller and BQQE seal. Total net weight stands at 110 kg.
The NB 40-160/172 electric motor operates on a 415 V three-phase supply drawing 14.3 Amps rated current at 7.5 kW output power. Fluid handling parameters accommodate liquid temperatures between -25°C to 120°C up to 16 bar system pressure. Line connection uses opposite DN 65 inlet and DN 40 outlet flanged ports.
Enclosure protection on the NB 40-160/172 model meets IP55 standards while motor windings feature Class F insulation and PTC thermistor protection relays. Maintenance technicians can extract the drive unit using back-pull-out access without removing the cast iron volute casing from connected plant room piping manifolds.
Features
- Ball bearing support arrangement accommodates both radial and axial thrust loads generated during continuous duty operation at rated speed.
- PN16 flanged connection ratings on sizes up to and including DN 150 provide elevated working pressure capability beyond standard EN733 10 bar ratings.
- O-ring seal between pump housing and cover eliminates leakage risk at the volute-to-cover joint under sustained operating pressures.
- Optimised impeller and volute hydraulics deliver unimpeded liquid flow through the pump casing, reducing internal turbulence losses.
- All stainless steel shaft construction provides improved corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel alternatives in wetted service areas.
- Mechanical shaft seal can be replaced without removing the impeller, system piping, pump volute casing or drive motor from the installation.
- Housing, impeller and wear ring use dissimilar material pairings to prevent galling and ensure no sticking elements during extended standby periods.

How many meters of dynamic lift does this pump provide?
To overcome vertical elevation resistance, the Grundfos NB 40-160/172 develops a maximum pumping head of approximately 36.85 m.
How much fluid throughput does this pump move under full load?
At full operating capacity, the NB 40-160/172 moves up to 807 L/Min to keep liquid levels controlled during peak inflow.
How is the pump casing constructed to resist mechanical and fluid wear?
Structural defense on the NB-40-160-172 is provided by a rugged EN-GJL-250 casing designed to withstand heavy mechanical stress.
What electrical voltage and motor kilowatt output drive this unit?
Running on 415 V three-phase power supplies, the NB 40 160 172 is driven by a 7.5 kW motor rated at 14.3 Amps.
How deep can this pump be installed underwater in a wet well?
Routine operational thermal ceilings enable the NB/40/160/172 to process liquids -25°C to 120°C.
