A primary structural material choice for fluoride reduction and taste improvement is the Davey Microlene AFAC10 purification cartridge. This model is designed for residential drinking water systems where the improvement of taste and odour is required alongside chemical reduction. It is designed for compatible standard 10 inch housings with approximately 64 mm diameter. The unit is intended for cold water point-of-use applications and is not designed for whole-house applications for multi-tap distribution.

Constructed as a non-regenerable cartridge, the housing contains preconditioned Actival fluoride selective media and Granular Activated Carbon. This combination is specified for a 80 to 90 percent reduction in typical 1 mg/L fluoride levels according to laboratory and field results. The Actival media has also been shown to reduce arsenic levels from 0.12 mg/L to below 0.02 mg/L. The unit features a white body and utilizes premier dedusted 20 x 50 mesh carbon to remove chlorine and organic odours. It includes a 5 micron nominal rating.

Fluid management metrics include an optimal flow rate of 2.0 L/Min and a total capacity of 2,000 litres. The internal mechanical path achieves a 5 micron nominal rating for the capture of suspended particles from the supply line. As a passive purification device, it functions without a motor or electrical supply. Performance is optimized in cold water environments where pH and alkalinity are managed for effective fluoride removal. The unit features a white body finish with no center cores and is rated for liquid temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius.

Hygienic performance is managed through a typical service life of six months in normal family use, depending on water quality and cartridge capacity. High pH and bicarbonate alkalinity over 100 mg/L will reduce the effectiveness of the Actival media in treating the water supply. A sediment prefilter is recommended to inhibit the premature clogging of active sites within the media. The unit fits compatible standard 10 inch housings and provides a specialized treatment solution. It involves no gaskets or chemical binders used in construction.
